Source: Crawfordsville Daily Journal, Oct 12, 1907

Mrs. Abbie PITMAN, the young wife of John Pitman, died at Culver Union Hospital at 6 o'clock Monday. evening and will be buried in the same grave with the infant daughter born a few hours prior to the mother's death. The child lived only a short time after being born. The death of mother and child so nearly at the same hour is in the nature of a tragedy to her near relatives.

Mrs. Pitman was young, being only 17, having been born Feb 3, 1890. She was employed at the Home Telephone Company exchange prior to her marriage with Mr. Pitman about a year ago. She was popular and had many warn friends in this city. For a time after her marriage she lived in Joliet, with her husband, where he had charge of the electrical work connected with a theatorium.

Later he went to Luddington, Michigan where he is now. He was not here at the time his wife died and has not arrived yet, so that the funeral arrangements have not been made. The funeral will very likely take place on Wednesday.

She is the youngest daughter of Mr. & Mrs. John L. HASTADAY and the first to break the family circle. Besides her husband and parents she leaves four sisters: Mrs. Sant Moody of Waveland; Mrs. Clem Cole of Newark, Ohio and Mrs. Jesse Stevens; Mrs. Joseph Rountree and Miss Nellie Hastaday of this city and three brothers; Edgar Hastady of Waveland; Henry Hastaday of Shelby, Ohio and William Hastaday of this city to mourn for her.-- typed by kbz
